Stuff I Like

In truly no particular order.

Movies & Related Paraphernalia:

  • Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
  • Little Miss Sunshine
  • Star Wars – the original 3 – I grew up watching them about every 2 weeks (Favorite: Return of the Jedi)
  • The Chipmunk Adventure
  • the cinematography in The Constant Gardener, and other movies, but it’s the first one that came to mind
  • Back to the Future: The Trilogy
  • Anne of Green Gables (Thank you, Canada!)
  • Newsies
  • Little Women, the Winona Ryder version
  • The Great Muppet Caper! (my favorite of the muppet movies; everyone has their pick)
  • The Road movies with Hope and Crosby
  • Pride and Prejudice (love the new version, also like Colin Firth, the older BBC one is not my favorite)
  • All things Harry Potter, though my favorite of the movies is the most recent as of this posting – Order of the Phoenix (#5)
  • Holiday Inn
  • Singin’ In the Rain
  • The Sound of Music
  • Holiday
  • Bringing Up Baby
  • Philadelphia Story
  • Yes, pretty much anything with Carey Grant (Arsenic and Old Lace, His Girl Friday) &/or Katherine Hepburn
  • Casablanca
  • I Soliti Ignoti (so brilliant and so much better than stupid American remake)
  • most things done by Focus Features
  • Roman Holiday
  • most things with Audrey Hepburn
  • West Side Story
  • Run Lola Run
  • Die Hard (1 & 3, don’t know 2)
  • Rocky 4 (yes, I think 1 is better, but I love Rocky vs. Russia, what can I say?)
  • Indiana Jones, though I will admit that I have still never seen #2 – Last Crusade is my favorite
  • Casino Royale
  • Empire Records
  • LOTR trilogy
  • V for Vendetta
  • X-Men 1 & 2
  • Amelie
  • You Can Count on Me
  • Brick
  • Dangerous Beauty
  • Lost in Translation
  • Minority Report
  • Groundhog Day
  • Trading Places
  • Stomp the Yard
  • Bad dance movies, because I love dance movies and that seems to be the only kind they make
  • The Dark Knight
  • Rear Window
  • Murder by Death (you need to see this movie if you haven’t)
  • Spirited Away
  • Seven Samurai
  • A Fish Called Wanda
  • 300
  • The Sting
  • Finding Nemo
  • East of Eden
  • Movie soundtracks by Thomas Newman – I love soundtracks and I have discovered that many that I love are all by him
  • Conversations with Other Women
  • The Visitor
  • How to Train Your Dragon
  • Forgetting Sarah Marshall
  • True Grit (Coen brothers)
  • The Hurt Locker
  • The Proposal
  • I somewhat guiltily really enjoy Confessions of a Shopaholic

As for TV:

  • The Office – both versions; I was skeptical of the American one at first, but am now in love…well, I was
  • Weeds
  • Sportsnight
  • Parks and Recreation
  • Original cast of SNL, especially Gilda Radner
  • Firefly
  • & yes, I do like me some Project Runway and Top Chef
  • Bramwell (did anyone else ever see this great PBS show?)
  • Speaking of PBS – Poirot
  • Terminator: The Sarah Conner Chronicles
  • 30 Rock – the first couple seasons. I have lost my love…
  • Arrested Development
  • I Love Lucy
  • Absolutely Fabulous
  • Distretto di Polizia 4 (When I was in Italy my host mother watched this show.  I thought it was called Police District 4, but no, 4 was the season.  It’s just plain old Police District.  And it’s awesome.  I really only know the end of season 4.)
  • THE WIRE
  • Party Down
  • Lie to Me
  • New Girl – hated the first episode, loved it by the end of the second
  • Fawlty Towers
  • Better Off Ted – brilliant show
  • Suits
  • Veronica Mars
  • Community
  • SHERLOCK

Bad Things I Find Hilarious:

  • The Sleeping Dictionary starring Jessica Alba (most boring title ever and not what you’d expect)
  • Tori Spelling movies on Lifetime
  • & speaking of Lifetime, the one with Melissa Joan Hart setting up her wrong-side-of-the-tracks boyfriend for killing her parents when she did it to be with her preppy real boyfriend.  Best when viewed while sitting in a 24-hour laundromat.

This is a really strange list.  And yes, I will keep adding to it.

  1. Great list! I saw some of them but my favorite is Thomas McCarthy’s ‘The Visitor’ ..

I’ve been meaning to write my review of that one forever. I LOVE Thomas McCarthy’s writing…and acting…and directing… (I totally want his career).
